Saturday, December 21, 2013 – Just after midnight Engine 62 and Truck 6 were sent to investigate an AFA (Automatic Fire Alarm) sounding in a buisness on Maier Road located in our first due response area. Upon arrival units found fire showing from the front of the building, E-62 requested to fill the box and proceeded to stretch an attack line, while T-6 went to work forcing the door and opening up. Crews made an aggressive interior attack on the fire which was deep seeded in rolls of carpet padding. Additionally staffed crews from Savage brought E-61, Medic 65, Ambulance 66 and chief 6. Engine 61 arrived and supplied water, as well as stretching a back up line. Given the present interior conditions command requested a 2nd alarm bringing multiple units from Howard County and from the surrounding jurisdictions of Anne Arundel and PG Counties to assist with fire attack. Crews were able to extinguish the stubborn blaze within the hour and were then in the process of overhaul and smoke removal. Our new Canteen-6 made its first official run to help with rehab. Savage fire station units operated on scene for approximately 3 before packing up and returning to quarters.
