Engine 61, Rescue Engine 6, and Chief 6B operated at a 2nd alarm building fire located at in the 4900 block of Canvasback Dr in company 2’s area (Ellicott City). Units went on location with heavy fire showing from a two story residential structure. The building which originally was constructed as a barn had since been converted to a multi unit residential complex. Due to the amount of fire showing upon arrival, first arriving companies went to a “defensive” operation until the bulk of the fire could be knocked down. Crews then made an interior attack knocking down the remainder of the fire and checking for extension. Chief 6B operated as the Safety Officer on the Charlie side, while crews from Engine 61 and Rescue Engine 6 assisted with water supply and fire attack. Crews operated for approximately 3 hours until being released by command.
